The former summer residence of the Rothschild banking family was built in 1894. Known as the "House of the Federal States" and the so-called "cradle of the Federal Republic of Germany", the first articles of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany were conceived and formulated here under Konrad Adenauer. In 2010, the Villa Rothschild was honored by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation alongside the Brandenburg Gate and Leipzig's Nikolaikirche as a place of freedom and democracy.
